In the Shearwater Education Program, school children participate in creative, cultural and environmental activities leading up to the Festival.

The Shearwater Festival is auspiced by the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation of Languages and sponsored by Bass Coast Shire Council in partnership with Phillip Island Nature Parks and the Bendigo Bank.

The Shearwater Festival Working Group has also developed a range of educational resources that can assist school children from around the world to learn about short-tailed shearwater birds and their cultural significance for local indigenous people.

The Message Exchange

This aims to connect children along the flight path of the shearwaters and help them understand not only what is special about their own place, but also what is special to children from other places.

This year's message exchange has already begun.
